USF Sweeps Weekly Softball Honors


 
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball honors, for the week ending March 27.

Weber has been named Player of the Week after posting a .450 batting average with nine hits, three runs, one stolen base, and seven RBIs over a 5-0 week for the Bulls. The junior recorded three multi-hit games and 16 total bases on the week, with two doubles, one triple and a home run. Weber, who leads the team with 55 hits on the season, was one of just two players who did not strikeout in the five games. In the Bulls’ 3-2 nonconference win over Northwestern on Tuesday, Weber had two RBIs, including a solo home run in the fifth and a walk-off double with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to keep the lead the team to its 18th straight win. USF has now reached a school-record 21-straight wins.

Nunn has been selected as Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after posting a 0.32 ERA in four appearances, including two starts, for a 3-0 week in the circle. The senior threw a nine-inning complete game against East Carolina on Thursday, in which she carried a perfect game into the sixth inning and a no-hitter into the seventh. In that outing, Nunn gave up just two hits and one unearned run as she struck out a season-high 14 batters – four shy of her career best. In four appearances the Apex, N.C., native pitched 22 innings, totaling 30 strikeouts and giving up 10 hits, two runs with one earned and six walks. She held opposing batters to a .135 average.

Alyssa Gardea • OF • Sr. • UConn • Corona, Calif.
Hit .571 and scored two runs against Memphis over the weekend. Gardea tallied a hit in each of the team’s three games, going 2-for-2 with a double and a run in the Huskies’ 6-0 win on Friday.
 
Katie St. Pierre • OF • Sr. • Houston • Flower Mound, Texas
Went 5-for-11 with three RBIs and two multi-hit games over the weekend against Tulsa. St. Pierre extended her reached-base streak to 31 games, dating back to last season. The senior had both RBIs in the Cougars’ 2-1 win over the Hurricane on Friday, and recorded her 11th stolen base of the season and 56th of her career.
 
Molly Smith • P • So. • Memphis • Yamhill, Ore.
Set a career-high with 10 strikeouts against UConn in the Tigers’ series-clinching win on Saturday. Smith did not allow any earned runs as she threw two complete games over the weekend. She has won four of her last five starts, and has given up just two earned runs over her last 28.1 innings of work.
 
Lindsey Stickrod • 1B • Jr. • Memphis • Kingston, Tenn.
Went 5-for-8 with two multi-hit games against UConn during the teams’ three-game series. Stickrod scored four runs over the weekend, including three in the series-opener against the Huskies.
 
Maddie Withee • OF • Jr. • Tulsa • Arlington, Texas
Hit .333, recorded six RBIs and four runs to lead Tulsa to a 2-1 series win at Houston over the weekend. Withee hit a three-run home run on Saturday to break a 2-2 tie and lead the Golden Hurricane to an 8-3 series-clinching win. Overall, she compiled a .778 slugging percentage and a .455 on-base percentage on the week.
