Temple Falls to Michigan in WNIT Quarterfinals, 77-76

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Temple lost a heartbreaker to Michigan, 77-76, in the quarterfinal round of the WNIT at Crisler Center on Monday.
 
In a back-and-forth fourth quarter, Michigan recorded the final basketball with eight seconds on the game clock to take a one-point lead. Temple had a pair of possessions at the end to try to win it. The Owls were called for an offensive foul on their first opportunity, but managed to force a Wolverine turnover on the ensuing inbounds play. On the final possession, Alliya Butts hosted up a 3-pointer that rattled in and out as time expired.
 
Sophomore Donnaizha Fountain scored a career-high 25 points to lead Temple. She also added seven rebounds and three assists. Tanaya Atkinson had 17 points and eight rebounds, while Butts had 11 points and a game-high five assists. Senior Erica Covile finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season.
 
Katelynn Flaherty closed with 23 points to lead Michigan (21-13). Madison Ristovski added 19 points and nine rebounds, while Hallie Thome closed with 13 points and eight rebounds. The Wolverines will play Florida Gulf Coast in the semifinals Thursday, March 31 at 8 p.m. ET.  
 
Temple finished the year with a 23-12 overall record.
