UCF’s Elvira Named American Men’s Golf Player of the Week



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – UCF sophomore Manuel Elvira was named the American Men's Golf Player of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
 
Elvira won the FAU Slomin Autism Invitational on Sunday and tied for medalist honors with Ole Miss’ Braden Thornberry and Miami (OH)’s Patrick Flavin. The sophomore made 14 birdies over the three-day event and carded a 64 in the second round, the third-best single round score in UCF program history. Elvira posted a 2-under 69 during the third and final round and finished 8-under 205 (72-64-69). He was just one of 12 in the 108 player field who finished the tournament under par.

  • UCF
    • Manuel Elvira led the Knights to a third place finish (4-over 856) at the FAU Slomin Autism Invitational Sunday in Lake Worth, Florida…Elvira’s second round 64 was a career-best.
    • UCF is back in action on Apr. 2 at the 3M Augusta Invitational in Augusta, Ga.
 
  • UConn
    • Zach Zaback and Eric Dietrich tied for fifth overall to lead UConn to a second-place finish at the FAU Slomin Autism Invite on Mar. 25-27…Zaback led the tournament with a 66 in the first round and finished 4-under 209 (66-71-72). Dietrich finished with the same score (209: 67-70-72).
    • The Huskies will travel to State College, Pa., for the Rutherford Intercollegiate on Apr. 16.
       
  • SMU
    • Gray Townsend posted his second Top 25 performance of the season during action at The Goodwin on Mar. 24-26 in Stanford, California…Townsend finished tied for 17th (2-over 212) and had 11 birdies and two eagles during the event.
    • SMU will next compete at the Mason Rudolph Championship on Apr. 2-3 in Nashville, Tenn.
 
  • Temple
    • Brandon Matthews shot a season-best five-under par to finish 10th in a 115 player field at the Furman Intercollegiate on Mar. 27…He led the Owls to a sixth place finish among 19 teams.
    • Temple will be in action next at the Cornell Spring South Florida Invitational on Apr. 2-3.
 
  • Tulsa
    • The Hurricane turned in rounds of 313 and 312 for a 54-hole total of 625 during action at the Little Rock First Tee Classic Mar. 28-29 at the Chenal Country Club…Freshman Jack Knoesel was the top finisher for Tulsa.
    • The Hurricane returns to the links on Apr. 15-17 at The Maxwell in Ardmore, Okla.
