UConn Sails Into Semifinals, 92-51

UNCASVILLE, Conn. –  Forwards Morgan Tuck and Katie Lou Samuelson scored 16 points each, leading five UConn players in double figures as the top-ranked and top-seeded Huskies advanced to the American Athletic Conference Championship semifinals with a 92-51 win against No. 8-seeded East Carolina Saturday afternoon at Mohegan Sun Arena.
 
UConn will face Tulane, a 70-64 winner against Memphis in earlier quarterfinal play, in Sunday’s semifinals. The Huskies and Green Wave will tip at 4:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
 
The Huskies (30-0) shot 59.4 percent from the field (41 of 69) and had a 42-20 rebounding advantage against the Pirates as they secured their 67th consecutive victory and reached 30 wins for the 11th straight season and the 22nd time in the past 24 years.

UConn built a 32-13 lead after the first quarter and led 52-22 at the break. Forward Breanna Stewart, the three-time American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, finished with 15 points and eight rebounds on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor.
 
East Carolina was led by its all-conference tandem of guard Jada Payne, who finished with 16 points and five rebounds, and I’Tiana Taylor, who had 14 points and five boards. The Pirates’ five starters accounted for all 51 of East Carolina’s points.

 

UConn improved to 7-0 all-time in American Athletic Conference tournament games as the Huskies eliminated the Pirates from the bracket for the second straight year.
