PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Houston sophomore Megan Thothong was named the American Women's Golf Player of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Thothong captured the second title of her career at the UNF Collegiate on March 7-8 and led the Cougars to the team championship. The sophomore won individual medalist honors along with teammate Emily Gilbreth and posted a 1-over 217 to finish first in a field of 96. Thothong made four birdies in the final round and helped the Cougars finish first out of 17 teams. Houston won the team title for the second consecutive season.

- The Knights posted a Top 10 finish at the SunTrust Gator Women’s Spring Invitational on Mar. 5-6…Ayaka Nakayama was the team leader for UCF and earned her first Top 20 finish of the year.
- UCF is off for a few weeks and returns to action on Apr. 1-3 at the Bryan National Collegiate.
- East Carolina
- Senior Frida Gustafsson Spang tied for fourth place during action at the Hurricane Invitational on March 2 in Coral Gables, Fla…The Pirates finished fifth overall in the team standings.
- East Carolina is back in action on Mar. 11 at the 3M Augusta Invitational in Augusta, Ga.
- Houston
- Megan Thothong and Emily Gilbreth tied for medalist honors at the UNF Collegiate Mar. 7-8 at the Jacksonville Golf & Country Club…As a team, the Cougars won the event for the second consecutive year.
- Houston next competes at the LSU Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, La., on Mar. 20-22.

- Maria Merchan posted her first Top 10 finish as a Bull during action at the SunTrust Gator Women’s Spring Invitational…The freshman collected the second most birdies in the tournament with nine.
- USF’s next event is the Clover Cup on Mar. 11-13 in Mesa, Ariz.
- SMU
- Junior Lindsey McCurdy posted her second Top 5 finish of the season at the SunTrust Gator Women’s Invitational…The Mustangs finished sixth overall as a team.
- SMU returns to action on Mar. 11-13 at the Clover Cup.
- Tulane
- Senior Emily Pentilla set the school record for the lowest 54-hole total with 9-under 204 during action at the Hurricane Invitational…Pentilla finished as the runner up while Tulane placed fourth in the team standings.
- Tulane is off for two weeks before returning to action on Mar. 20-22 at the LSU Tiger Classic.
