USF’s Cid and Houston’s Rupert Earn Weekly Tennis Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s men’s and women’s weekly tennis honors for the week ending April 10.

Cid defeated the top-ranked singles player in the nation to lead No. 22 USF to a 5-2 win against No. 27 Tulane on Sunday afternoon. The senior, who is ranked No. 5 in singles, produced a comeback, super tiebreaker victory against No. 1 Dominik Koepfer, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (6), 1-0 (3). The win for Cid marks the second time in his career that he has defeated the top-ranked singles player as he took down UCLA’s Clay Thompson in the 2014 NCAA Singles Championship. The native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, also earned a win in third flight doubles to clinch the doubles point for the Bulls against the Green Wave.

Rupert combined for a 3-1 record in singles and doubles in a pair matches for Houston this past week. The product of Slovenia began the weekend with a three-set victory in No. 4 singles and a 6-3 win in No. 2 doubles against No. 29 Tulsa on Saturday. The following day, Rupert generated a 6-0, 6-4 win in fourth flight singles against North Texas.
