UConn's DeRoche-Duffin, UCF's Howell Take Weekly Baseball Honors



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week-ending April 17.

DeRoche-Duffin led UConn to a 5-0 week, which included a series sweep of No. 30 Houston. He hit .421 (8-for-19) and slugged .947 in the five games with three home runs, seven RBIs and five runs scored. DeRoche-Duffin, who hit safely in all five games, went 2-for-4 with a home run in a 6-3 win against Northeast Conference-leading Bryant and capped UConn's sweep of Houston with a 2-for-4, four-RBI effort in Game 3 against the Cougars.

Howell helped UCF to a series win against USF by taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning of the Knights' 4-0 victory in Game 2 against the Bulls. He finished his outing with one hit allowed and seven strikeouts in 7.0 innings, improving his record to 7-0 on the season and lowering his ERA to a league-leading 1.14.

Pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing three hits and striking out five to win a 1-0 pitchers' duel against Cincinnati.

Hit .375 (6-for-16) with two home runs, three RBIs and two runs scored in four games. Hit a walkoff home run in the bottom of the ninth in a 1-0 win against Cincinnati.
