PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s final men’s and women’s weekly tennis honors for the 2016 season.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Roberto Cid • Sr. • USF • Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Cid went 3-0 in singles and doubles to lead No. 19 USF to wins against No. 24 Tulsa, 7-0, and No. 38 Memphis, 4-0, over the weekend. The senior produced a 6-1, 6-4 win over Tulsa’s Juan Gonzales on Friday. Cid won his 20th match of the season with a three-set victory over No. 88 Andrew Watson of Memphis on Sunday. The native of the Dominican Republic also picked up a win in third flight doubles with partner Ignacio Gonzales-Muniz against the Tigers. Cid closed out the regular season with a 20-2 record in singles.

Celia Ruiz • Fr. • East Carolina • Pontevedra, Spain
Ruiz posted a perfect 2-0 mark in singles and doubles at the No. 1 spot as the Pirates earned wins against Cincinnati, 4-0, and UConn, 4-2. The product of Pontevedra, Spain, produced 6-2, 6-3 wins against Lauren Bellinger of Cincinnati and Srna Stoslevic of UConn in singles action. In doubles play, the freshman teamed with Nicole LaDuca to win 6-1 against the Bearcats and 6-0 against the Huskies.
