PALM COAST, Fla. – No. 28 Houston shot a 2-over-par 290 during the final round, the lowest round of the day, to win the 2016 American Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championship by 10 strokes Tuesday afternoon at Hammock Beach Resort & Golf Club in Palm Coast, Fla. The Cougars finished the three-day event with an 894.
The Cougars shot rounds of 319, 285, and 290, and placed three individuals among the top-10. No. 32 East Carolina finished second with a three-round total of 904 (309-301-294), while USF was third with a 910 (311-298-301).
Pirates senior Frida Gustafsson Spang claimed individual medalist honors after shooting five-under 67 in the final round.

The senior’s round of 67 tied the lowest 18-hole total in American women’s golf championship history set by USF’s Ashley Burke in 2015. Gustafsson Spang, who was tied with UCF’s Ashley Holder heading into the 18
th hole, clinched the title by birdying the final hole.
Holder (75-70-71) finished as the runner-up, while Nicole Autrique (USF) and No. 72 Jenny Haglund (SMU) each tied for third with three-over-par 219 scores.
NCAA Women’s Golf Regionals take place May 5-7 and the National Championship, hosted by Oregon, is set for May 20-25 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore. The NCAA Women's Golf Championships selections will be announced live via the Golf Channel Monday, April 25 during Golf Central, which will air that evening from 6 to 7 p.m. EST.
