USF’s Olsen Tabbed American Men’s Golf Player of the Week



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – USF senior Aksel Olsen was named the American Men's Golf Player of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
 
Olsen posted his third Top 10 finish this spring at the Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate Apr. 16-17 after tying for fifth with a 5-under 208 (72-64-72). Olsen’s career-low 7-under 64 helped the Bulls set the program’s new 18-hole record in the second round (264). He tied for fifth in the 93-player field and USF finished as the runner-up out of 17 teams.

  • UCF
    • Sophomore Manuel Elvira posted his third straight Top 5 finish during action at the Boilermaker Invitational Apr. 16-17 in West Lafayette, Indiana…Elvira tied for fifth with a 3-under 213 (72-70-71).
    • UCF next competes at the American Athletic Conference Championship May 1-3 in Lecanto, Florida.
       
  • Cincinnati
    • Junior Jared O’Kelley (73-71-73) posted his lowest three-round tournament score of the spring season at the Boilermaker Invitational Apr. 16-17…The junior carded a Top 20 finish (T-18).
    • Cincinnati will next complete at the American Athletic Conference Championship May 1-3 in Lecanto, Florida.
       
  • UConn
    • The Huskies posted its fifth Top 5 finish of the season after placing fourth in the 11-team Rutherford Intercollegiate Apr. 16-17 in State College, Pennsylvania…Eric Dietrich (1-over 214) led UConn with a Top 10 finish.
    • The Huskies return to action Apr. 23-24 hosting the Til Duty is Gone Collegiate Invitational at Mohegan Sun Golf Club.
 
  • East Carolina
    • The Pirates finished ninth at the rain shortened Maxwell Apr. 16-17 in Ardmore, Oklahoma…Jackson Spires was the best finisher for East Carolina and carded a 3-over 143 (71-72)  after two rounds.
    • The Pirates begin postseason play in two weeks at the American Athletic Conference Championship.
 
  • Houston
    • The Cougars were seventh at The Maxwell Apr. 16-17 at Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, Oklahoma…Sophomore Michael Perras (69-72) paced Houston and carded a Top 22 finish during the rain shortened event.
    • Houston’s next event is the American Athletic Conference Championship May 1-3 in Lecanto, Florida.
 
  • Memphis
    • Lars van Meijel (67-69) tied for second at The Maxwell in Ardmore, Oklahoma…The third round of the event was canceled due to inclement weather…The Tigers posted a fifth-place finish as a team.
    • With the regular season complete, the Tigers will now prepare for the American Athletic Conference Championship on May 1-3.
 
  • USF
    • USF completed regular season action with a second-place finish (-13) at the Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate Apr. 16-17 in Raleigh, North Carolina…Three Bulls (Aksel Olsen, Chase Koepka, Claudio Correa) finished in the Top 10.
    • USF returns to the links May 1-3 at the American Athletic Conference Championship.
 
  • SMU
    • The Mustangs wrapped up its regular season with a fourth-place finish at the Hawkeye Invitational Apr. 16-17 in Iowa City, Iowa…Senior Austin Smotherman was fifth in the individual standings at 4-under 212.
 
  • Temple
    • Freshman Trey Wren led the Owls with a 3-over 145 to tie for 20th at the Princeton Invitational Apr. 9-10 at Springdale Golf Club…Temple finished 12th as a team (301-299).
    • The Owls will next compete at the American Athletic Conference Championship May 1-3 in Lecanto, Fla.
 
  • Tulsa
    • The Hurricane turned in rounds of 303 and 288 during the rain shortened Maxwell Apr. 16-17 at the Dornick Hills Black Course in Ardmore, Oklahoma…Freshman Jack Knoesel (70-75) was the top finisher for Tulsa.
    • The Hurricane is in action next at the American Athletic Conference Championship May 1-3 at Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Florida.
