PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The seeding for the 2016 American Athletic Conference Women’s Rowing Championship is set, as seven teams will look to compete for the conference title on Saturday, May 14. The championship will be held at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center on Lake Natoma in Gold River, California.
UCF is favored to repeat as The American champion, as the Knights are the top seed in four of the six races; varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four and third varsity four. Last year, UCF won the American Athletic Conference title with a team score of 198 to earn the conference’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship. The Knights finished 19th in the team standings following three days of competition at the 2015 NCAA Women's Rowing Championship on Lake Natoma.
Tulsa will once again look to contend with UCF for the conference title. The Golden Hurricane is the top seed in a pair of races (third varsity eight, second varsity four) and received the No. 2 seed in the varsity eight and second varsity eight. Tulsa finished runner-up in last year’s conference championship, only nine points behind UCF in the team standings.
Temple is predicted to be a top-three contender in the varsity four, third varsity eight, second varsity four and third varsity four. The Owls’ varsity eight was named the American Athletic Conference Boat of the Week twice during the 2016 season. Last year, the Owls placed fourth in the conference championship with 107 points.
UConn, Sacramento State and San Diego State will compete in all six races. SMU will only row in the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four.
Competition will begin at 2:10 p.m. ET/11:10 a.m. PT with the third varsity four and will conclude at 3 p.m. ET/noon PT with the varsity eight. The awards ceremony will be held at 3:50 p.m. ET/12:50 p.m. PT. The entire championship, including awards ceremony, will be live streamed on
