TULSA, Okla. - Tournament host and third-seeded Tulsa scattered two runs across six innings in a 2-0 win over No. 6 East Carolina Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the American Softball Championship. The Hurricane will play No. 2 seed UCF in the semifinals on Friday at 3:30 p.m. CT.
Julia Hollingsworth’s solo homerun in the third inning gave Tulsa a 1-0 lead. The Hurricane held a one-run advantage for the next two innings until Maddie Withee’s sacrifice fly plated Hollingsworth in the sixth for the insurance run.
Sophomore Emily Watson got the win in the circle for Tulsa, while junior Lydia Ritchie took the loss for the Pirates. Watson struck out 10 batters in seven innings of action while Ritchie gave up just three hits over six innings.
Six different players had a hit for East Carolina while Hollingsworth, Maggie Withee and Morgan Neal paced the Hurricane with one hit apiece.
Tulsa improved to 33-19 with the win while East Carolina fell to 23-31 with the loss.
