ORLANDO, Fla. –
The UConn men and the Memphis and East Carolina women's programs hold the team leads through three days of competition at the 2016 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex.
 
The UConn men (86) have a 38-point advantage over second-place Memphis (48), heading into the final day of the championship. Third-place Cincinnati (47) and fourth-place USF (46.50) narrowly trail the Tigers, while Houston completes the top five with 42 points. Tulsa (38), East Carolina (26) and Tulane (16.50) round out the field.
 
Memphis and East Carolina women are tied with 50 points each, leading third-place SMU by four points (46). Cincinnati is in fourth with 40 points, followed by UCF and UConn with 29 points apiece. Tulane (20), Houston (16), USF (14), Tulsa (13) and Temple (5) complete the scoring.
 
On his way to winning his second-straight men’s high jump title, East Carolina's Avion Jones cleared the bar at 7-7.0/2.31 meters. The senior shattered his own meet record of 7-0.50/2.15 meters to post the top mark in the NCAA this season, and become eligible for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials by surpassing the qualifying height of 7-5.75/2.28 meters.

Jones had entered the championship with the fifth-highest mark in the nation, which he set in April at the Duke Invitational (7-3.25/2.22 meters).

Memphis’ Jordan Wesner took second in the men’s high jump (7-1.5/2.17m), followed by Cincinnati junior Jordan Hardiman in third (6-11.0/2.11m).
 
Cincinnati's Adrian Valles claimed his second-consecutive men's pole vault title and set a stadium record as he reached a height of 17-10.5/5.45 meters. UConn junior Craig Hunter took second (17-6.5/5.35 meters), while USF sophomore David Akins finished third (16-8.75/5.10 meters). The Bulls placed four athletes in the top six in the event.
 
Houston took two of the top-three and three of the top-five places in the men's long jump. Cameron Burrell set a meet and stadium record as he won the event, reaching 25-7.25/7.80 meters on his first attempt. Teammate Trumaine Jefferson took third (24-9.25/7.55m), while USF senior Matthew O’Neal was the runner-up with a mark of 24-10/7.57m.
 
UConn senior Sarah Bowens won the women's long jump (20-2.5/6.16m), marking her second-straight event title. Cincinnati’s Kellsa Mbah took second (19-9.0/6.02m), while Memphis junior Chardae Greenlee finished third (19-5.5/5.93m).
 
Memphis’ Michael Criticos captured the men’s javelin throw title, with a meet-record mark of 235-09/71.85 meters. UConn tallied five of the top-seven spots in the event, with senior Adam Boucher (219-09/66.98m) taking second, and sophomore Kevin Foster in third (217-06/66.30m).
 
Tulane junior Daliadiz Ortiz is the back-to-back women's javelin throw champion as she hit a mark of 159-08/48.66 meters. SMU’s Lucija Cvitanovic, the 2016 hepthathlon champion, finished second (159-01/48.48m), while Memphis freshman Ashley Pryke was third (153-08/46.84m).
 
Benjamin Preisner, a Tulsa freshman, set a new stadium record as he finished first in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase (8:58.21). Freshman Emmanual Rotich of Tulane took second place with a time of 8:59.90. In third place was Cincinnati sophomore Dan Huben (9:16.76).
 
Houston’s Selena Sierra took the gold in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing in 10:31.07. SMU’s Karoline Skatteboe came in second (10:34.22), while East Carolina freshman Grace Sullivan took third place (10:36.34).
 
UConn athletes recorded the top-two times in women's 1,500-meter preliminaries, with junior Alexis Panisse (4:33.12) and teammate Lindsey Kane leading the field (4:35.95). The men’s 1,500 meter run will go straight to a final on Sunday.
 
Cincinnati posted the top-three times in the women’s 100-meter hurdles preliminaries, as senior Javette Lee ran the conference’s best time this season (13.41).
 
In the men’s 110-meter hurdles preliminaries, Houston athletes Issac Williams (13.79) and Amere Lattin (13.86) ran the top-two times.
 
East Carolina's Tamarack Bolden recorded the best time in the men’s 400-meter preliminaries (46.92). On the women’s side, Tulane teammates Jasmine Blocker (52.03) and Lilla McMillian (52.65) finished first and second, respectively.
 
The Houston men’s team tallied six of the top-eight times in 100-meter dash, including the top three. Senior LeShon Collins led the way with a time of 10.36. SMU’s Craishia Washington (11.58) and teammate Latessa Johnson (11.60) posted the top-two women’s qualifying times.
