Houston and USF each advanced to the NCAA Men's Golf Championships for the second consecutive season after carding top-five finishes in Regional action. The Cougars tied for third at the NCAA Franklin Regional while USF carded a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Albuquerque Regional.
A day after tying the program’s team low-round record at 274, Houston shot the Regional’s second-lowest round of the day during final round action on Wednesday at 16-under-par 272. The Cougars finished with a three-day score of 25-under-par 839 on the 7,190-yard, par-72 course.
Houston sophomore Michael Perras captured the individual championship at the Franklin Regional with a score of 16-under-par 200. Perras, an All-American Athletic Conference honoree in 2016, became the second Cougar in program history to post three straight rounds in the 60s in NCAA Regional play, joining current teammate senior Blair Hamilton (2015 NCAA Lubbock Regional) and joined Hamilton, Brett Callas and Dean Larsson as the only Cougars to win NCAA Regional individual titles.
Claudio Correa led the Bulls with a fifth-place finish at the Albuquerque Regional at 4-over after carding a 2-under 70, his best score of the tournament, at New Mexico's Championship Course (par-72, 7,555 yards). The sophomore from Chile led the 75-player field with 13 total birdies after collecting five in the final round.
NCAA Championships are set for May 27-June 1 at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
