UConn's DeRoche-Duffin, USF's Sanders Earn Weekly Baseball Honors



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week-ending May 1.

DeRoche-Duffin led UConn to three wins in four road games, including a series win at Memphis, as he hit .417 (5-for-12) and slugged 1.417 in the four contests. Four of his five hits were home runs as he scored seven runs and had seven RBIs in addition to six walks and a stolen base. He had at least one hit and one RBI in all four games and scored at least two runs in three of the four. DeRoche-Duffin leads The American with 12 home runs for the Huskies, who have won 11 of their last 15 games.

Sanders helped USF to a series win against UCF by picking up the win in Game 1 against the Knights. He went 8.0 innings and allowed only two hits and one walk with 12 strikeouts as the Bulls took a 4-0 victory. Sanders, who improved to 5-3 with the win, ranks fourth in The American with 75 strikeouts in 2016.

Pitched 7.0 shutout innings and struck out three, scattering five hits and one walk in a 3-0 win at East Carolina. Has pitched 17.2 consecutive scoreless innings.
 
Corey Julks • So. • OF • Houston • Friendswood, Texas
Hit .615 (8-for-13) with a double, four runs scored and three RBIs in a 2-1 week. Had multiple hits in all three games.
 
Luke Maglich • Sr. • OF • USF • Sarasota, Fla.
Hit .500 (7-for-14) and slugged 1.143 in four games. Had four doubles, a triple, a home run and six RBIs, including a walkoff double in Game 2 against UCF to clinch the three-game series.
 
J.P. France • So. • RHP • Tulane • Luling, La.
Worked 9.1 innings and allowed one run with eight strikeouts in two appearances, including a 7.1-inning effort with six Ks in a 4-1 win against No. 8 LSU.
 
Grant Witherspoon • Fr. • OF • Tulane • Lakewood, Colo.
Hit .500 (7-for-14) with two runs scored and three RBIs in a 2-1 week. Hit safely in all three games, including a 4-for-5 effort in a 10-4 win against Houston.
