Memphis Sweeps Weekly Softball Honors

The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball honors, for the week ending May 1.

Stickrod has been named Player of the Week after she led Memphis with a .462 batting average and .500 on-base percentage over four games. The junior totaled a team-high six hits on the week, as she recorded two multi-hit games with three RBIs against Tulsa. Stickrod helped lift the Tigers to a series win over the Hurricane, which put Memphis in third place in the standings with one week of conference play left. The Kingston, Tenn., native also had an RBI in Memphis’ 3-2 nonconference win over UT-Martin on Wednesday.

Novak has been selected as Pitcher of the Week after she threw 11 scoreless innings over the weekend against Tulsa. The sophomore earned a complete-game win as she allowed just four hits in the Tigers’ 5-0 shutout win over the Hurricane on Saturday. On Sunday Novak made her second start in the circle, allowing just two hits in four innings, as Memphis clinched the series against the Hurricane.

Cassady Brewer • 2B • Fr. • UCF • Apopka, Fla.
Led the team with a .333 batting average on the week. Brewer drew a walk in every game to increase her team-best total to 29 on the season. The freshman also recorded 10 putouts with 10 assists over four games.
 
Shelby Turnier • P • Sr. • UCF • Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Posted the 22nd shutout of her UCF career with the Knights’ 9-0 series-opening win over No. 22/18 USF on Friday. A pair of wins over the Bulls pushed her career victories to 76; two shy of the all-time program record. With 11 strikeouts on the week, Turnier brought her career total to 794, as she is now six away from becoming the third Knight to reach 800 career strikeouts.
 
Alyson Ambler • P/Utility • Sr. • UConn • Walla Walla, Wash.
Hit .417 over the week, with three RBIs, three runs scored, a double and homerun. Ambler hit a solo homerun in the fourth inning of Friday’s 3-2 win over Houston.

Presley Bell • P • Fr. • Houston • Liberty, Texas
Picked up her fifth win of the season on Saturday against UConn. Bell pitched a complete game, giving up one earned run on four hits. She struck out four batters in the win.
 
Elise LeBeouf • OF • Fr. • Houston • Crowley, La.
Went 6-for-11 at the plate and drew two walks against UConn, with three runs scored. LeBeouf recorded five putouts and an assist, as she threw a runner out at the plate to save a run scored during game two.
