Highlights
- Redshirt junior Jasmine Acevedo lifted RV/RV UCF to a 1-0 win over No. 22/21 Florida Atlantic with a solo home run in the opening round of the NCAA Gainesville Regional, held at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium on Friday afternoon. The Knights advance in the winner’s bracket, facing No. 1/1 Florida at noon ET on Saturday.
- UCF totaled six hits as a pair of Knights turned in multi-hit performances. Acevedo went 2-for-3, and scored the game-winning run on a solo homer to left field. The Largo, Fla., native’s second career home run dropped just outside of the fence in left field in the top of the fifth to put the Knights on top. Senior Jessica Ujvari went 2-for-2 at the plate for UCF, her 10th multi-hit game of the season. Junior Brittany Solis and freshman Cassady Brewer each had a hit for the Knights in the contest.
- Senior pitcher Shelby Turnier tossed the 23rd shutout of her career. Turnier and the defense kept an NCAA opponent off the scoreboard for the first time since since May 18, 2008, when UCF held No. 1 Florida scoreless in the Gainesville Regional.
- The Knights limited FAU to just two hits, and snapped the Owls’ 21-game winning streak.
- No. 24/24 USF dropped the first game of the Tallahassee Regional, 2-0, to South Carolina on Friday afternoon. USF will battle in tomorrow’s elimination game against Florida A&M, at 2:30 p.m. ET.
- The Bulls outhit the Gamecocks, 8-3, but couldn’t find a way to push across a run. Lauren Evans and Astin Donovan each went 3-for-3 at the plate, picking up six of the Bulls’ eight hits. Cassidy Boyle recorded the other two hits for USF on two doubles.
- Despite allowing just three hits, senior Erica Nunn would take the loss. The LHP struck out four and allowed just one earned run in a complete-game outing.
- RV/NR Tulsa suffered a 5-1 loss to NR/RV Mississippi in the opening game of the NCAA Norman Regional Friday evening at Marita Hynes Field. The Golden Hurricane will face Wichita State at 5 p.m. ET/4 p.m. CT on Saturday, in an elimination game.
- Third baseman Maggie Withee went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and a walk, and scored on Julia Hollingsworth's sixth-inning double. Withee had two of Tulsa's four hits in the game.
- All three Tulsa pitchers threw in the game, including sophomores Emily Watson and Lexi Blevins, who saw their first NCAA postseason action. Starter Caitlin Sill (19-11) went 4.0 innings, and took the loss. Watson entered to begin the fifth, and allowed one unearned run in 1.2 innings. Blevins relieved with two outs in the sixth, throwing one pitch to induce a groundout back to the circle for the final out.
