American Athletic Conference Set For Annual Spring Meeting May 31 - June 3

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference will convene for its Annual Spring Meeting next week at the Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne in Key Biscayne, Florida. Presidents, athletic directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, head football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball coaches from member institutions, as well as American staff members, will attend the meeting from Tuesday, May 31-Friday, June 3.

“We are looking forward to three productive days of meetings with our presidents, athletic directors, SWAs, coaches and conference staff members,” American Commissioner Mike Aresco said. “We will be discussing our Conference’s strategic plan, television and digital strategies, new branding initiatives and key NCAA issues such as student-athlete time demands, the values-based distribution initiative, the student-athlete endorsement issue and a review of the current NCAA enforcement protocol. Our focus will be on student-athlete health, safety and well-being as well as opportunities for student-athlete educational and personal development and the enhancement of the overall campus experience. We also will take time to celebrate the extraordinary academic and athletic accomplishments of our student-athletes and coaches in 2015-16.”

Donald Remy, NCAA executive vice president of law, policy and governance and chief legal officer at the NCAA, will provide an update to our membership on current NCAA legal matters. Another member of the NCAA’s governance staff, Diane Dickman, managing director of Division I governance, will address a number of important topics, including the NCAA Board of Directors structure, a review of NCAA Council initiatives and the NCAA values-based distribution initiative. Executives from CBS Sports and ESPN also will attend and make formal presentations. Representatives from the Conference’s marketing partner, RARE Design, will outline the Conference’s proposed brand messaging plan for 2016-17, and representatives of Wasserman Media will discuss the Conference’s media and digital strategies.
