PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Three American Athletic Conference teams were among the 64 announced Monday to compete in the 2016 NCAA Baseball Championship.
Tulane, the 2016 American Athletic Conference regular-season champion, and East Carolina were selected to the field for the second consecutive year. UConn, which won the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championship Sunday, will make its first NCAA appearance since 2013.
All three American Athletic Conference teams will begin tournament play Friday, June 3, on ESPN3.
UConn will head to Gainesville, Florida, as the No. 3 seed in the four-team, double-elimination regional, pairing the Huskies against No. 2-seeded Georgia Tech at 1 p.m. ET Friday in their tournament opener. Florida is the No. 1 seed in the regional - and the No.1 overall seed - while Bethune-Cookman is the No. 4 seed.
Tulane was chosen as the No. 2 seed in the Oxford, Mississippi, regional. The Green Wave begins tournament play Friday at 4 p.m. ET against Boston College. Mississippi is the No. 1 seed in the region, while Utah is the No. 4 seed.
East Carolina was selected as the No. 3 seed in the Charlottesville, Virginia, regoinal, pairing the Pirates against No. 2-seeded Bryant Friday at 6 p.m. ET. The Pirates will face either No. 1-seeded Virginia or No. 4-seeded William & Mary in their second game of the regional.
The winners of the 16 regionals advance to the best-of-three Super Regional round of the tournament.
