Navy is off to a 1-0 headstart in league play as the Midshipmen took a 28-24 win against UConn at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Navy saw an early 21-0 lead get away thanks to 24 straight UConn points, but a 1-yard touchdown run by QB Will Worth stood up as the gamewinner after the Midshipmen denied the Huskies inside the 1-yard line as time expired.

Navy is one of five American teams with a 2-0 overall record as Cincinnati, East Carolina, Houston and USF picked up nonconference wins to remain unbeaten.

East Carolina was a 33-30 winner against North Carolina State, giving the Pirates their sixth straight win against a team from the ACC. Cincinnati scored a 38-20 road win against Purdue, thanks in part to three interceptions from S Mike Tyson.

USF rolled past Northern Illinois, 48-17, to get to 2-0 as QB Quinton Flowers threw for a career-high 350 yards and four touchdowns. No. 6/7 Houston was a 42-0 winner against Lamar as the Cougars did not allow the Cardinals to cross midfield.

Temple also enjoyed a shutout win as the Owls were 38-0 winners against Stony Brook as QB Phillip Walker threw three touchdown passes. Tulane picked up its first win in convincing fashion as the Green Wave had 437 rushing yards in a 66-21 victory against Southern, the first win at Tulane for coach Willie Fritz.

Three American Athletic Conference teams suffered losses to top-25 opponents on the road as UCF fell to No. 5/6 Michigan, Tulsa lost at No. 4/4 Ohio State and SMU saw a tie game at halftime get away in the second half against No. 23/19 Baylor..
