Women's Soccer: Weekly Honors Announced




PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s soccer honors for the week ending Sept. 11.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Evelyne Viens * Fr. * F * USF
Viens racked up nine points over the weekend as she scored four goals and had one assist. She scored her first collegiate hat trick in the Bulls 6-0 victory against Jacksonville. It was the first hat trick for USF in 10 years. Viens also had a foot in each scoring play for USF in their 2-0 victory over Georgia Southern. She assisted with the game-winning goal and scored a goal of her own.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Vanessa Gilles * Jr. * D * Cincinnati
Gilles led a back line that allowed only two goals in three matches over the past week. She also netted two goals over the weekend including the lone goal in the Bearcats 1-1 tie against Duquesne. She led the team in goals for the week..
 
Goalkeeper of the Week
Kat Elliott * Jr. * USF
Elliott recorded a pair of shutouts over the weekend. She had a combined five saves in the Bulls matches against Jacksonville and Georgia Southern.
 
Rookie of the Week
Allie Thornton * Fr. * F * SMU
Thornton scored her first collegiate hat trick on Sunday in the Mustangs 6-1 victory over Abilene Christian. She had seven shots during the week and logged 99 minutes between the two matches. 
 
Weekly Honor Roll
Carol Rodrigues * Sr. * F * UCF
Recorded five points in UCF's victories over FIU  and Florida Gulf Coast

Natalie Smith * RS-Sr. * GK * Cincinnati
Recorded six saves in the Bearcats victory over Colorado College and tie against Duquesne

Stephanie Ribeiro * RS-Sr. * F * UConn
Scored two goals for UConn, including the game-winner, in the Huskies 4-1 victory over Stony Brook
 
Lana Spitler * Sr. * F * East Carolina
Tallied a career high five points in the Pirates 3-2 victory over Charlotte

Gudrun Sigurdardottir * Fr. * F * USF
Scored her first collegiate goal and had two assists for the Bulls in their victories over Jacksonville and Georgia Southern
