Houston and UConn Players Earn Weekly Honors



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly football honors for the third week of the 2016 college football season.

 
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Greg Ward Jr. · Sr. · QB · Houston · Tyler, Texas

Ward accounted for three touchdowns, including two in the fourth quarter, as Houston overcame a 16-12 deficit to earn a 40-16 win at Cincinnati and give him 16 consecutive victories as the Cougars’ starting quarterback. Ward threw for 326 yards and a touchdown on 24-of-36 passing and rushed for 73 yards and two TDs on 26 carries.

Taylor led a Houston defense that held Cincinnati to 30 rushing yards in the Cougars’ 40-16 road win. He had a team-high nine tackles to go with two sacks and a 74-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Taylor leads the nation with 5.5 sacks in 2016.

Puyol scored seven of UConn’s 13 points as the Huskies overcame a 10-0 deficit to defeat Virginia, 13-10. Puyol hit  a 21-yard field goal in the second quarter and made his second game-winning field goal of the young season with a 43-yard kick with 1:33 left in the fourth quarter. Puyol has gone 4-for-4 on field goals in 2016 and has hit eight straight, dating to last season.

Rushed for 111 yards on 26 carries, including the game-winning touchdown, in a 21-14 win at Tulane.
 
Rodney Adams · Sr. · WR · USF · St. Petersburg, Fla.
Scored three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving) and had 149 all-purpose yards in a 45-20 win at Syracuse.
 
Braeden West · So. · RB · SMU · Katy, Texas
Rushed for 220 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries in a 29-14 win against Liberty.
