PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s soccer honors for the week ending Sept. 18.
Offensive Player of the Week
Claire Oates * Jr. * MF * SMU
Oates scored both game-winning goals for the Mustangs in their weekend victories. In the 79th minute, Oates netted her fourth goal of the season to lead SMU past
RV/RV Washington.
Defensive Player of the Week
Kayla Utley * Sr. * D * Cincinnati
Utley was a part of a defense that did not give up a single goal over the weekend as the Bearcats defeats Lipscomb 4-0 and Youngstown State 3-0.. As she made her 72
nd and 73
rd career starts, she led a backline that only allowed five shots on goal for the entire weekend.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Nicole Young * RS-Fr. * Houston
Young recorded nine saves in only 79 minutes in Houston's 2-0 victory over UTSA. It was a season high for saves in the freshman's collegiate debut.
Rookie of the Week
Caroline Jeffers * Fr. * GK * East Carolina
Jeffers recorded four saves in the 2-0 Pirates shutout against UNC Greensboro. It was her fourth victory and second shutout of the season.
