UCF's Hervey and SMU's Heise take home weekly volleyball honors



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly volleyball honors for the week ending Sep. 25.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jale Hervey • Sr. • OH • UCF
Hervey was the offensive leader for UCF as the Knights swept both in-state rival USF and Memphis to start conference play. The senior finished the weekend with 37 kills in six sets averaging 6.17 kills per set and hitting .394 in the two matches. Against Memphis, Hervey finished with 18 kills to only two errors and hit .500 while notching her seventh double-double of the season adding 10 digs.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Morgan Heise • Sr. • L • SMU
Heise guided SMU to a 2-0 weekend, including a win over preseason favorite Cincinnati. Heise finished the weekend averaging 4.89 digs per set, finishing with over 20 digs in both matches and is currently the leader in digs in the conference averaging 5.34 digs per set. The senior earned her 2,000th dig in the win against the Bearcats.
 
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL   
Jordan Thompson • So. • RS/OH • Cincinnati
Thompson finished with double-doubles in both matches averaging 4.90 kills per set and 2.33 digs per set. The junior set a career-high with 13 digs and tied a career-high with 27 kills in a five-set win over Tulsa.
 
Camille Evans • Sr. • OH • UConn
Evans helped the Huskies to a 2-0 record with wins over Houston and Tulane. The senior had a career-high 16 kills and only one error, hitting .517 against the Green Wave.
 
Natalie Montini • Jr. • MB • East Carolina
Montini averaged an American Athletic Conference week-best 1.62 blocks per set in matches against defending league champion SMU and Tulsa. The junior helped the Pirates hold both SMU (.138) and Tulsa (.190) to under .200 hitting performances.
 
Amy Van Sant • Sr. • L • USF
Van Sant led the Bulls in digs over the weekend and had a career-high 25 digs in the win over Memphis while averaging 6.oo digs per set. Van Sant helped the Bulls remain undefeated at home (7-0).
 
Irem Asci • Jr. • OH • Temple
Asci had a career-high 26  kills, hitting .388 with seven digs , four blocks and two aces as Temple beat Houston 3-1. Asci finished with weekend averaging 5.22 kills per set and 1.78 digs per set.
