American Athletic Conference Announces Weekly Women’s Basketball Honors



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 22.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Katie Lou Samuelson • So. • G/F • UConn
Sophomore guard/forward Katie Lou Samuelson averaged 33.0 points on 66.7-percent shooting, including 57.9-percent from long-range, to go along with 4.0 steals per game during the top-ranked Huskies’ 2-0 week that included wins over Tulsa and Tulane. Samuelson started the week with a career-high 34 points on 13-of-18 shooting in the win over the Hurricane last Tuesday. She followed that performance with 32 points on 11-of-18 shooting in Sunday’s win over the Green Wave, who is receiving votes in the latest USA Today Coaches Poll.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Shug Dickson • Fr. • G • Tulsa
Dickson averaged 21.5 points per game in a 1-1 week for the Hurricane while shooting 57-percent (16-of-28) from the field and 58-percent (7-of-12) from 3-point range. She opened the week with team-high 21 points against top-ranked UConn while adding four rebounds and four assists. Dickson finished the week with a career-high 22 points against UCF on Saturday to help the Hurricane earn the program’s first-ever win over the Knights in Orlando.
