Indoor Track and Field: Cincinnati, UCF, Houston and Memphis bring home weekly honors


 
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track and field honors of the 2016-17 season, for the week ending Jan. 29.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Cameron Burrell • Sr. • Houston • Houston, Texas
Burrell has been named Male Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after his performance in the 60m dash at the Houston Invitational. Burrell ran the 60m in 6.64 seconds, which is the top time in the conference and the seventh fastest time in the NCAA. 
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Anne-Marie Blaney • Sr. • UCF • Ocala, Fla.
Blaney takes home Female Track Athlete of the Week honors for the second straight week after winning the mile run and the 3,000m run at the Bob Pollock Invitational. Blaney’s time of 4:45.06 in the mile is the fastest in the conference and her time of 9:22.30 is the second fastest time in the conference behind her own time of 9:18.87.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Luke Vaughn • Sr. • Memphis • East Peoria, Ill.
Vaughn has been named Male Field Athlete of the Week for the first time this year after his performance in the shot put and the weight throw at the A-State Invitational.  Vaughn’s mark of 18.04m in the shot put is the best mark in the conference. The senior finished second in the weight throw with a distance of 17.03m.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Annette Echikunwoke • Jr. • Cincinnati • Pickerington, Ohio
Echikunwoke earned her third Female Field Athlete of the Week award for this season after her first place finish in the weight throw at the Thundering Herd Invitational. The junior threw a mark of 22.10m, her second best mark of the season, and is the only woman in the NCAA with two marks of 22m or better in 2017.
