There is no doubt USF forward Kitija Laksa, the 2016 American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, is one of the best in the country from behind the 3-point arc.
Laksa put her sharpshooting skills on display over the weekend in an 84-68 win against Tulsa. She erupted for 37 points on Saturday and finished 7-for-14 from 3-point territory.
This high-level performance is not unusual for the sophomore who currently leads The American in scoring (21.6 ppg) and is amongst the nation’s elite in 3-point field goals per game (2nd, 3.86), 3-point field goals (9th, 54) and 3-point field goal percentage (31st, 42.9).
USF (13-1, 2-0) will need Laksa to be at her best on Tuesday when the Bulls travel to Storrs, Connecticut, for a meeting with top-seeded UConn (14-0, 2-0). The Bulls have faced the Huskies six times in the past two years – only one of two teams to do so – and were the only opponent to hold a halftime lead against Geno Auriemma’s squad last season. The tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and will be aired on CBS Sports Network.
