PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Thirty-five American Athletic Conference student-athletes earned recognition by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for their academic excellence, as announced on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Student-athletes must maintain a 3.5 grade-point average or higher to receive the award.
The NFCA released the record 7,351 recipients of its All-American Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2016-17 academic year. NCAA Division I, with 1,843 honorees, had the most student-athletes with a 3.5 grade-point average or higher, while 1,825 in Division III earned recognition, followed by 1,268 Division II student-athletes. High School weighted and High School unweighted posted 751 and 609 honorees apiece. NAIA amassed 559 recipients and Junior College totaled 496.
