PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly
volleyball honors for the week ending on Oct. 15.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Izzy Rapacz * Sr. * RS/OH * Temple
Rapacz fueled the Owls’ offense, as Temple enjoyed a 2-0 weekend in Florida. She hit a .448, averaging 4.62 kills per set with five blocks through the two contests. Rapacz led all players with 12 kills and a .308 hitting percentage and three blocks in the sweep over USF on Friday. On Sunday, she was instrumental in leading the way to a come-from-behind victory, recording a season-high 25 kills on the way to a .537 hitting percentage in a 3-2 win over UCF. She recorded four points, including the final two points in the fifth set win that went to 15-13.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Giorgia Civita * R-Fr. * L * Wichita State22
Civita earns her third Defensive Player of the Week honor this season after guiding the Shockers back row to their fourth 2-0 conference weekend. She helped Wichita State
22 become the sole conference leader, posting 29 digs with a flawless reception percentage in the four set win over SMU, handing the Mustangs their first conference loss of the year. She then had 15 digs in the 3-0 win over Tulsa. She averaged a weekend-high 6.29 digs per set.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Maya Muldrow * Sr. * MB * Cincinnati
Muldrow led the Bearcats in both kills and blocks per set in the team’s two wins over the weekend. She recorded 16 kills with a .433 hitting percentage and four blocks in the 3-1 win over Houston. She carried the momentum into Sunday, recording another 14 kills, five blocks and a .308 hitting percentage.
Kayla Williams * R-So. * OH * UConn
Williams registered her team-leading 10th double-double in a 3-0 win at USF with 19 kills and 17 digs. She ended the weekend action with averages of 4.67 kills and 4.50 digs per set.
Brandee Markwith * So. * DS/L * ECU
ECU is on a five-match winning streak after going 2-0 over the weekend. Markwith paced the back row with 5.78 digs per set and held a perfect reception percentage through 37 attempts. She began the weekend with a 30-dig performance in the 3-2 win over Tulane and had 22 against digs in the four-set win over Houston.
Montana Watts * So. * L * SMU
Watts had 6.00 digs per set in SMU’s two matches, including 21 digs in the sweep over Memphis, which are a career-high in a three-set match. She also logged 21 digs against Wichita State
22 on Friday night.
Abbie Lehman * Sr. * MB * Wichita State22
Lehman was a force at the net for the Shockers to help them to another undefeated weekend and improve to 8-0 in The American. The senior middle blocker averaged 4.29 kills, 1.43 blocks and 5.21 points per set, while hitting a .583. On Friday in the battle for first place with SMU, she had a match-high 20 kills with just one error on 33 swings and hit .576. In the three-set win over Tulsa, she had a match-high 10 kills and seven blocks, while hitting .600.
