> Wichita State
21 remains undefeated in conference play with an 8-0 record, as all 12 American teams will play twice over the weekend. Two-time defending conference champion SMU stands alone in second place with a 7-1 league record after the Shockers handed them their first American loss of the year. Cincinnati, ECU and Temple are each tied for third place with 6-2 records.
> For the first time this year, The American will enter the weekend action with a sole leader at the top of the standings. Wichita State ranks in the nation’s top-50 in six different statistical categories, leading the league in kills, assists and hitting percentage, while holding its opponents to a league-low .131 hitting percentage. The Shockers will extend their home stand to four matches, welcoming Cincinnati and ECU to the court this weekend. Wichita State is 5-1 at home this year and has won eight in a row. Head coach Chris Lamb reached the 400th career win milestone last weekend with the Shockers’ two victories.
> ECU is off to its best start in 17 years and is on a five-match winning streak, which is the longest for the Pirates since the 2006 squad captured eight-straight victories. ECU most recently defeated Tulane in five sets and Memphis in four last weekend. Libero Brandee Markwith has recorded 405 digs this season, which rank 28th in the nation. Along with the Shockers, the Pirates will face Memphis.
> For the second time this season, two teams that competed in the 2016 NCAA Tournament will collide in American action when Cincinnati travels to Kansas to face Wichita State on Friday, Oct. 20. This marks the second time ever these two teams will meet, as Cincinnati defeated Wichita State, 3-1, on Sept. 2, 2016. The Bearcats have won seven of their last 10 and are coming off a 2-0 weekend with wins over Tulane and Houston. Both Carly Nolan and Jade Tingelhoff are tied for the league-lead with 12 double-doubles this season. Nolan leads the conference in kills per set with 4.05 and points per set with 4.58.

The American Digital Network at 1 p.m. ET. Tulane looks to snap a seven-match setback, while UCF is coming off a 1-1 weekend after sweeping UConn and dropping a five-set heartbreaker to Temple. The Knights travel to Tulane with a 3-5 conference mark, as the Green Wave are 1-7.
