ECU's Forbrigd Named Women's Golf Player of the Month



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – ECU sophomore Dorthea Forbrigd (Oslo, Norway) was named the American Athletic Conference Women's Golf Player of the Month for September, the league announced on Monday.
 
Forbrigd earned medalist honors at the Pirate Collegiate Classic, besting a field of 90. Shooting 215 (69-75-71) on the par-72 layout, Forbrigd won the title in playoff over teammate Kate Law to become the 12th Pirate to win an individual title. Forbrigd dominated the par-5’s in her win, leading the field with a 4.42 scoring average. Forbrigd’s effort helped ECU take the team title, as the Pirates won by 13 strokes by shooting 1-over par as a team (280-299-286).  
 
Earlier in the month, Forbrigd fired a 1-over 217 (74-71-72) at the Minnesota Invitational. Against a field that included USC, Michigan State, Purdue, Louisville, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Georgia, Kansas and Kansas State, the Pirates took eighth in the two-day tournament.

Memphis’ Michaela Fletcher earned medalist honors at the Payne Stewart Memorial at 1-under (72-69-71 – 212) … The Tigers also took team honors at the Payne Stewart Memorial … Wichita State’s Taryn Torgerson lost in a playoff at the ORU Lady Maxwell after shooting 4-over (76-67-71 – 214) on the par-70 layout … Houston’s Leonie Harm shot the lowest score of the month by an American player, shooting 5-under (72-72-67 – 211) at the Mason Rudolph Championship … Also at the Mason Rudolph, UCF’s Maria Balcazar set a program-record with a second-round 65 … Tulane captured the USA Intercollegiate after posting a team score of 1-under par (290-288-279 – 857) … Both Jennifer Rosenberg and Gabrielle Correia shot 1-under par to tie for seventh … Tulsa’s Johanna Samuelsson took a career-best second at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational, firing an even-par score of 216 (73-72-71 – 216).
