American Athletic Conference Announces Weekly Women's Soccer Honors

Four teams are receiving weekly accolades, two remain unbeaten in league action



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference announced its weekly honors for the week ending in Oct. 1.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Morgan Ferrara, Sr., F, UCF
Ferrara recorded her first career hat trick in UCF’s 5-0 win over Memphis Sunday afternoon. She became the first Knight since Sept. 2013 to achieve the feat. Ferrara also scored a pair of goals in UCF’s 6-1 win over Tulsa – the most goals for the Knights since joining The American. Ferrara’s four goals on the weekend pushed her season total to a team-leading seven goals.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Kiki Lowell, Fr., D, Cincinnati
Lowell started and played the full 90 minutes of regulation at UConn and Temple. She anchored the Cincinnati defense to two more shutouts over the weekend and has not allowed a goal in league play. The Bearcats eight shutouts on the year is double the next team in the American Athletic Conference.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week
Kat Elliott, Sr., USF
Elliot spent 833:35 minutes in goal and recorded a 3-0 shutout over Tulsa and a 3-1 win vs. Memphis. She picked up five total saves over the weekend, while facing 26 shots. The Bulls have recorded three shutouts this season and improve to 7-3-0 on the year, and 3-1-0 in conference action.
 
Rookie of the Week
Dina Orschmann, Fr., F, UCF
Orschmann recorded at least one point in each of UCF’s victories over the weekend. She scored the opening goal in UCF’s 6-1 win over Tulsa, the most goals the Knights have scored in a match since joining The American. On Sunday, she recorded an assist on Kayla Adamek’s goal in UCF’s 5-0 win over Memphis.
 
Honor Roll
Vera Varis, Jr., GK, UCF
Varis has yet to allow a goal in conference play and ranks in the top 15 nationally in overall goals-against average. She played 135 minutes over the weekend, recording a shutout while picking up a pair of wins vs. Tulsa and Memphis.
 
Jill Vetere, Jr., F, Cincinnati
Junior transfer Vetere scored the game-winner at UConn, her first goal at Cincinnati. The 1-0 win in Storrs, Conn. was the Bearcats first win at UConn in program history.
 
Grace Adams, Sr., D, USF
Adams helped anchor the Bulls defense to two wins over the weekend, including the 3-0 shutout over Tulsa Thursday night. She also converted a scoring opportunity for USF on a penalty kick in a 3-1 win vs. Memphis.
 
Evelyne Viens, So., F, USF
Viens made two goals and had two assists in the Bulls’ 2-0 week of conference play. She scored her seventh goal of the season, and the 23rd of her career in USF’s 3-0 win against Tulsa.
 
Morgan Basileo, So., GK, Temple
Basileo recorded 12 total saves over the weekend. She posted a shutout Thursday night vs. ECU to help the Owls get its first conference win since October 2015.
