PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer honors for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 22.
Offensive Player of the Week
Cal Jennings * So. * F * UCF
Jennings led the UCF offense over the week with five points – two goals and one assist – in the Knights’ 3-2 win at RV/25 UConn on Saturday. He had a hand in every goal
vs. the Huskies and scored the eventual game-winning tally in the 72
nd minute.
Defensive Player of the Week
Jordan Cano * Sr. * B * SMU
Cano anchored the SMU backline to two shutout wins last week, a 2-0 win over Oral Roberts on Tuesday and a 2-0 victory at Cincinnati last Saturday. The Mustangs posted their eighth shutout of the season and fourth consecutive overall with last week’s results and are tied for first in The American standings heading into the final two weeks of conference play.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Michael Nelson * R-Sr. * SMU
Nelson earns back-to-back American Goalkeeper of the Week honors after recording two shutouts and posting two wins in an undefeated week for SMU. The redshirt senior played every minute in goal last week and made three saves while posting a 1.000 save percentage with no goals allowed (0.00 GAA).
Rookie of the Week
Alan Camacho Soto * Fr. * F * Temple
Camacho Soto scored his fifth goal of the season Saturday in Temple’s 3-1 win at Tulsa. The rookie gave the Owls a 2-1 lead in the 20
th minute against the Hurricane, which proved to be the game-winning goal. Temple moved to fourth place in The American with Saturday’s win.
