American Athletic Conference Announces Swimming and Diving Weekly Honors

UConn, ECU earn conference weekly honors



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference announced its swimming and diving weekly honors for the week ending Oct. 22.
 
Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Vendela Norrman * Sr. * ECU
Norrman produced a NCAA B cut time as she placed first in the 200 breaststroke. She also was part of a first-place 200 medley relay team, and runner-up in in the 100 breaststroke. Her time in the 200 breast (2:15.85) is 26th in the NCAA and first in The American. She produced a time of 1:04.68 in the 100 breast, while the 200 medley relay squad posted an overall time of 1:46.02.
 
Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Will Kearsey * So. * UConn
Kearsey posted a first-place finish in four individual events and first in the 400 yard medley relay this past weekend vs. Central Connecticut State and St. Bonaventure. His 100 backstroke time Friday was 50.91, Saturday his time improved to 50.73 earning the conference-best time so far this season. He competed in the 200 back Friday (1:51.63) and Saturday (1:51.79), finishing first in both competitions.
 
Women’s Diver of the Week
Alicia Roueche * Sr. * ECU
Roueche finished first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events in a dual meet against Old Dominion Saturday. She tallied a score of 290.05 in the 1-meter, a top-four finish in the conference. Roueche produced a score of 348.70 points, qualifying for NCAA Zone Regional.
 
Men’s Diver of the Week
Dan Kinney * Sr. * UConn
Kinney placed first-place finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events this past weekend. He recorded a league-best score in the 3-meter (351.70) Friday against the Blue Devils and the Bona Wolf’s. Kinney’s score of 269.77 in the 1-meter event is fourth top-time in the conference.
