PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Eight teams will compete in league action this weekend, while Cincinnati
22/20 rounds out its non-conference slate Friday.
UCF
10/21 moved into the top 10 in the United Soccer Coaches’ rankings for the first time since 2012, and the first time under head coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak. The Knights have not lost a match since dropping its season opener to then-No. 4 South Carolina. UCF
10/21 will look to increase its eight-match unbeaten streak this weekend when they travel to Texas to face Houston on Oct. 5 and SMU on Oct. 8.
Cincinnati
22/20 will play one match this upcoming week as the squad hosts non-conference opponent Morehead State Friday night. The match will also be Senior Night as the program will honor its six outgoing seniors: Jaycie Brown, Katy Couperus, Lizzie Ehrnfelt, Julie Gavorski, Vanessa Gilles and Taylor Pavlika. The United Soccer Coaches’ Poll released its national rankings Tuesday with the Bearcats at No. 22.
After a 1-1 finish to open American Athletic Conference action UConn will hit the road for a pair of league matches against Tulsa on Thursday and at Memphis on Sunday. Senior goalkeeper Courtney Hofer picked up her first career win with the Huskies in UConn’s 2-1 win over ECU Sunday. Hofer is in her first year with the Huskies after transferring from TCU.
Houston will return to action this weekend playing host to UCF
10/21 Thursday and USF Sunday at the Carl Lewis Complex in Houston, Texas. The Coogs had a bye week and spent Sept. 30 out in the Houston community helping those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Memphis will host its final two regular season home matches this weekend. First the Tigers will take on Temple Thursday at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex before celebrating Senior Day against UConn Sunday at the Billy J. Murphy Track & Soccer Complex.
USF will head to Texas for a conference road swing, where they will face both SMU and Houston over the weekend. The Bulls are third in conference standings (3-1-0) through week two of action. Cincinnati
22/20 handed USF its only loss in league play Sept 24. USF is ranked No. 41 in the lasted NCAA RPI rankings.
Following nearly a week off, SMU will host USF Thursday night, and then close out its three-match homestand with UCF
10/21 Sunday afternoon. Thursday’s match is also the Mustangs’ annual “Mustangs for a Cure” match, a department-wide effort to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer.
Temple will look to improve on its 1-1 conference start as the Owls head into another weekend of league action. The Owls will travel to Memphis and Tulsa as they take on the Tigers on Thursday, and the Golden Hurricane on Sunday.
The Golden Hurricane is in a four-way tie for fifth place in conference standings through week two of league action. Tulsa will return to the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium this weekend to compete against UConn Thursday night and Temple Sunday afternoon.
