PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference announced its weekly honors from games played through Oct. 8.
Offensive Player of the Week
Morgan Ferrara, Sr., F, UCF
Ferrara led the Knights with two goals in each of the two matches last week. She started both match and added an assist in the win over Houston to tally nine points over the weekend. Ferrara paces the team with 11 total goals, five of which are game winners. Entering Sunday’s match, she ranked sixth in the nation in game-winning goals.
Defensive Player of the Week
Kat Sousa, Sr., D, UCF
Sousa played all 180 minutes in each of UCF’s 4-0 victories against Houston and SMU this past weekend. She has played a key role on the backline for the Knights, anchoring the defense to six total shutouts on the season. The win Sunday extended UCF’s unbeaten streak to 10 matches.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Vera Varis, Jr., UCF
Varis recorded two shutouts on the road against Houston and SMU to extend her streak to eight matches without allowing a goal. She has not conceded a goal in league play and was ranked fourth in the NCAA in goal against average (0.25).
Rookie of the Week
Katie Kitching, Fr., F, USF
Kitching scored her second goal of the season against SMU to increase the Bulls’ unbeaten streak to four matches. She is tied at fourth and fifth on the team in goals and points respectively. USF improves to 5-1-0 in league play and is second in conference standings with last week’s wins over SMU and Houston.
Honor Roll
Stefanie Sanders, Fr., F, UCF
Sanders played a season-high 35 minutes in UCF’s 4-0 win at Houston. On Sunday, she scored her second goal of the season to put the Knights up 2-0 en route to a 4-0 victory at Wescott Stadium.
Taylor Pavlika, Sr., D, Cincinnati
Pavlika cleared the backline several times to help Cincinnati to its fifth shutout in a row and ninth of the year in a 4-0 win over Morehead State. The Bearcats have yet to allow a goal in 516.23 minutes.
Elizabeth Woerner, Jr., F, Memphis
Woerner scored a goal in each victory this weekend for the Tigers. Her goal in the beginning of the second half against UConn proved to be the game-winning goal and she now has a team-high 10 goals.
Kat Elliott, Sr., GK, USF
Elliot had a total of nine saves this past weekend and recorded an .818 save percentage.
Evelyne Viens, So., F, USF
Viens tallied her 25
th career goal in the Bulls’ 4-0 shutout over Houston Sunday afternoon. Against SMU, she recorded three assists on all three of USF’s goals.
