PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The 2017 American Athletic Conference Football Championship will be televised nationally on ABC. The Championship will be played Saturday, Dec. 2, at noon ET at the home site of one of the conference’s divisional winners.
 
This year will mark the third consecutive season in which The American Football Championship is televised on ABC. The game has drawn a national television of audience of at least 2 million viewers in each of its first two years.
 
Four teams are still alive in the races for division titles. Memphis, which is 5-1 in The American, would clinch the West Division title with one win in its final two games (Nov. 17 vs. SMU; Nov. 25 vs. ECU). Houston would win the West if the Cougars win their final two games (Nov. 18 at Tulane; Nov. 24 vs. Navy) and Memphis loses its last two.
 
UCF and USF are still in contention in the East Division. The Knights, at 6-0 in conference play, would clinch the East crown this week if Tulsa defeats USF Thursday and UCF beats Temple Saturday. A USF win this Thursday or a UCF loss this Saturday would set up a winner-take-all matchup for the division title Friday, Nov. 24, in Orlando, Florida.
 
The site of the American Athletic Conference Football Champion will be the divisional champion with the better winning percentage in conference games. If the divisional champions have the same conference record, then the conference’s tiebreaking procedure will be used.
