PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced its monthly tennis honors for the month of October.
MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Majed Kilani • Jr. • Tulsa • Tunis, Tunisia
Kilani went 6-2 in singles play with a pair of wins over ranked opponents this past month for Tulsa. The unranked junior began October with a victory over No. 54 Logan Smith of USC, 6-4, 6-2, in the ITA All-America Championships Main Draw. He continued his high level of play with a semifinal run in the ITA Central Regional Championships, which included a win over No. 18 Julian Cash of Oklahoma State, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3. In addition, Kilani and teammate Jarod Hing went 2-1 in doubles action at the regional.
WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Martina Okalova • So. • Tulsa • Banska Bystrica, Slovakia
Okalova produced a singles record of 5-1 at the ITA Central Regional Championships, including a win over the top-seed in the tournament. The sophomore knocked off No. 36 Ana Oparenovic of Arkansas, 6-3, 6-4, en route to an appearance into the semifinals. In doubles action, Okalova teamed with Vera Ploner to pick up a win against Elly Hartnet and Carmen Palumbo of North Dakota, 8-3.
