PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the week of Nov. 13-19.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Melvin Frazier · Jr. · F · Tulane · Avondale, La.
Frazier earns his first career player of the week honors after leading Tulane to its first 4-0 start since 2013-14 with three wins last week. Frazier was named the Most Valuable Player of the Jamaica Classic after recording 23 points in each of the Green Wave’s two victories. The junior sandwiched double-doubles around a 23-point effort in Tulane’s rout of Colorado State, beginning the week with a 25-point, 10-rebound effort against Southeastern Louisiana before a 23-point, 14-rebound performance against Fordham. On the week, Frazier was 26-for-32 from the floor and averaged 23.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Ceasar DeJesus · R-Fr. · G · UCF · Jersey City, N.J.
DeJesus helped UCF to two victories last week, averaging 9.5 points per game. Playing 38 minutes against William & Mary, DeJesus finished with 11 points to go along with three assists and two steals.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Obi Enechionyia · Sr. · F · Temple · Springfield, Va.
Named the MVP of the Charleston Classic, Enechionyia averaged 15.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game as Temple took the tournament title. The senior posted his first double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds in the Owls’ semifinal win over Auburn.
Rob Gray · Sr. · G · Houston · Forest City, N.C.
Gray earned All-Paradise Jam honors after helping the Cougars to a 2-1 showing. For the week, Gray averaged 26.3 points and 3.7 assists per game, scoring a career-high 37 points against Drexel. Gray scored 11 of Houston’s final 13 points in the Coogs’ victory over Wake Forest, finishing with 23 points.
A.J. Davis · R-Sr. · F · UCF · Atlanta, Ga.
Davis recorded double-doubles in both UCF victories, beginning the week with 15 points and 10 rebounds against Gardner-Webb before closing with 17 points and 11 boards versus William & Mary.
Christian Vital · So. · G · UConn · Queens Village, N.Y.
Coming off the bench, Vital was instant offense for UConn, scoring a career-high 30 points as the Huskies rolled past Boston University. Vital was 9-of-15 from the floor, including four three-pointers.
Jarron Cumberland · So. · G · Cincinnati · Wilmington, Ohio
Playing just 48 minutes in Cincinnati’s two wins, Cumberland led the Bearcats by averaging 19.5 ppg. Cumberland’s 20 and 19-point efforts on the week led all scorers in both games.
