Temple’s Atkinson, Cincinnati’s Thomas Earn Weekly Women's Basketball Honors



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors for the week ending Sunday, Nov. 19.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tanaya Atkinson • Sr. G • Temple
Atkinson led the Owls in scoring and rebounding with 24.0 points and 11.7 rebounds per game in a 2-1 week for Temple. Against Rutgers last Monday, she tied a career-high with 30 points to go along with 13 rebounds, three assists and two steals. In a win over Wagner, Atkinson scored 24 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, and recorded a career-high five steals. Closing the week on the road at Iona, she scored 18 points and recorded 12 rebounds. Atkinson shot 58-percent (29-of-50) from the field over the course of three games.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Iimar’i Thomas  Fr. • F • Cincinnati
Thomas averaged 15.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game in a 3-0 week for Cincinnati. The rookie opened the week with 18 points and five rebounds in an 85-52 win over Slippery Rock on Monday. She recorded the first double-double of the season for the Bearcats in Wednesday’s 82-43 win over Southeastern Louisiana, posting 15 points and 10 boards. She finished the week with 13 points and seven rebounds in a 73-62 victory over Miami (Ohio) on Saturday.

Posted her first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds vs. Arkansas State, was 6-of-6 from the field

Averaged 13.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game on 66-percent (12-of-18) shooting in wins over Little Rock and UMKC
