ORLANDO, Fla. – Three first-half goals propelled No. 1-seed UCF (13-1-2) past No. 4-seed Memphis (11-6-3), 3-0, in the semifinals of The American Women’s Soccer Championship.
UCF advances to play No. 2-seed USF (12-3-1) Sunday at 2 p.m. ET in the finals. The Knights will return to the conference championship finals for the first time since The American women’s soccer inaugural season in 2013, which UCF won on penalties. The match will air on ESPNEWS.
Three minutes into the match a Memphis own goal opened the scoring. Less than five minutes later, the Knights doubled their lead as Morgan Ferrara scored off a penalty kick. With just under 12 minutes left in the first half, Stefanie Sanders found the back of the net on a cross from Dina Orschmann to boost the Knights’ lead to three.
Ferrara’s goal was her conference-leading 13th of the season, while Sanderson tallied her fourth goal on the year. The Knights have recorded a total of 45 goals through 16 games this season. UCF has compiled nine clean sheets, and extended its unbeaten-streak to 15 matches.
American Goalkeeper of the Year Vera Varis tallied her seventh shutout of the season for UCF.
Memphis goalkeeper Elizabeth Moberg was active in goal throughout the match, picking up two saves for the Tigers.
