Women's Soccer: Viens' First Half Goal Sends Bulls To Finals



ORLANDO, Fla. – Evelyne Viens’ superb individual effort on a first half goal advanced No. 2-seeded USF (12-3-1) past No. 6-seeded SMU (10-7-3), 1-0, in the semifinals of The American Women’s Soccer Championship.


 
USF advances to play either No. 1-seeded UCF or No. 4-seeded Memphis Sunday at 2 p.m. ET in the Finals. For the Bulls, this marks their first trip back to the conference championship finals since 2015. The match will air on ESPNEWS.
 
Viens scored the lone goal of the match as she went one-on-one versus SMU goalkeeper Catie Brown at the 12-minute mark. Viens dispossessed an SMU defender outside the 20-yard box and beat Brown to the near post.
 
The goal was Viens’ 11th on the season and 27th of her career. The Bulls have recorded a total of 33 goals through 16 games this season.
 
Brown kept SMU in the match throughout, collecting five saves for the Mustangs. After a return trip to The American semifinals, SMU’s season ends at 10-7-3.
