PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference announced its swimming and diving weekly honors for the week ending Nov. 5.
Female Swimmer of the Week
Matea Samardzic * Sr. * SMU
Samardzic produced three individual wins and contributed in a third-place relay finish in SMU’s win against LSU. The senior began the meet with a first-place time of 55.40 in the 100 back. Samardzic followed that up by defeating the field in the 200 back with a NCAA B cut qualifying time of 1:58.13 and placed first in the 400 IM (4:22.49). In the 200 medley relay, she swam the fastest back split in 26.27.
Male Swimmer of the Week
Jonathan Gomez * Sr. * SMU
Gomez recorded two first-place finishes and one runner-up finish in three individual races Friday versus LSU. The Colombia native touched the wall first in the 1000 free with a time of 9:31.32. Gomez then paced the field in the 200 fly with a conference-leading time of 1:47.74, qualifying for NCAA B cuts. In the 400 IM, he placed second with a time that ranks top-50 in the country and first in The American (3:58.89).
Female Diver of the Week
Tricia Roscoe * So. * Cincinnati
Roscoe earned a first and fourth place score in the 3-meter and 1-meter diving events respectively this past weekend against IUPUI. The sophomore finished with 232.85 points in the 1-meter and 238.65 points in the 3-meter.
Male Diver of the Week
Mitch Godar * Sr. * Cincinnati
Godar put together a pair of first-place scores against IUPUI Saturday. The product of Cleves, Ohio, finished with a conference-leading score of 321.05 in the 1-meter and 290.90 in the 3-meter en route to a sweep of the diving events.
