Highlights
 
- Two more teams opened their 2017-18 indoor track & field seasons, while The American combined to set four school records over the weekend.
 
- Malik Snead highlighted the opening four events on Thursday by setting a UConn school record in the long jump with a 7.67 M mark. Sophomore Jordan Torney won the Heptathlon on Friday scoring 5150 points over the two-day UConn Multi Event Challenge. The Huskies earned 19 team points to secure the top spot among the five competing teams. Samuel Rusak secured second place in the final standings. The freshman shined in the pole vault by posting a 4.80 M mark in the event, the best of the meet.
 
- Cincinnati opened the 2018 season Friday afternoon at the Hoosier Open with three school records falling and several other superlatives attained as the Bearcats lifted the lid on the indoor campaign inside the Gladstein Fieldhouse on the Indiana campus. Annette Echikunwoke broke a pair of school records in the throws while sprinter Tiona Lattimore took down the top mark in the 300m dash to help lead the way for UC.
 
The senior defending NCAA weight throw champion got straight to work in her signature event as she chucked the 20-pound ball out to 23.15m (75-11.50) to better her previous record by 1' 6" (0.46m) and mark the 12th time in the last three seasons that she has either tied or broken the school record in the event. She also entered the shot put and took second with a best of 16.72m (54-10.25), a mark that broke the previous school record by 2' 4.25".
 
The third Bearcats school record that fell came from sophomore Lattimore as the returning 4x400m relay All-American ran 38.43 to finish sixth overall in the race. On the men's side, Austin Edwards led the way with two marks, including the No. 5 long jump distance with his best of 7.45m (24-05.50). Edwards also ran 6.88 in the preliminary races of the 60m dash to qualify for the final and post the No. 7 time in school history. Adrian Valles, who cleared 5.30m (17-04.50), ranks No. 2 in the NCAA in the pole vault while Edwards's long jump mark is No. 6. Valles won the only title for the men.
 
- The Houston men’s and women’s teams opened the 2017-18 indoor season with four individual titles and 14 top-3 finishes at the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational on Saturday, in College Station, Texas. Competition on the track began with the men’s 60-meter hurdles, where Amere Lattin claimed Houston’s first victory of the season. Lattin crossed the line in 7.98 to take first in the even, which is currently ranked No. 7 in the nation.
 
On the straight track, Mario Burke made his season debut with a win in the 60-meter dash. Burke crossed the line in 6.76, which ranks tied for seventh in the nation in the early season. Jacarias Martin picked up Houston’s third Reveille Invitational title of the afternoon in the 200-meter dash,  clocking a time of 21.30.
 
The Cougars ended the meet with their fourth victory of the afternoon, in the shot put competition. Felipe Valencia won the competition with a top mark of 59-4.25 (18.09m). On the women’s side, freshman Naomi Taylor made her collegiate debut with a second place finish in 8.54. Taylor’s mark places her 16th on the early NCAA list in the hurdles. Paige Lawrence used her third jump of the afternoon to travel 17-7.5 (5.37m) and take third in the long jump. Nora Monie followed with a third place finish in the women’s shot put with a mark of 45-6.5 (13.88m), and  Sarah Howe cleared a height of 11-4.5 (3.47m) to take bronze in the pole vault.
 
- Team Tuliamuk finished with 177 points to win the 11th annual Intrasquad meet Friday afternoon at the Heskett Center in Wichita, Kan. The team won it's eighth championship, including the last four of five years.  Alex Adams set a personal best 16.93m/55-6.5 to win the weight throw, freshman Jaden Damon won the long jump with a mark of 5.55m/18-2.5, Jake Horsch ran a personal best 1:22.31 in the 600m to finish first and Denvoir Griffin clocked in a personal best 6.88 to win the 60m. Hunter Veith won the long jump (7.58m/24-10.5) and 60m hurdles (8.16).
