Shamet, Johnson Take Home Weekly Honors



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the week of Dec. 4-10.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Landry Shamet · So. · G · Wichita State · Kansas City, Mo.
Shamet led No. 6/6 Wichita State to a 2-0 week, culminating with a career-high 30-point performance in the Shockers’ 78-66 win at Oklahoma State. Shamet’s effort allowed Wichita State to hand the Cowboys just their eighth non-conference home loss since 1989. In two wins, Shamet averaged 25.5 points and 6.5 assists per game.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Jamal Johnson · Fr. · G · Memphis · Birmingham, Ala.
In a 2-0 week for Memphis, Johnson converted the game-winning three-point play with 2.5 seconds remaining in the Tigers’ 65-64 victory over Samford. The freshman followed up the heroics with a career-high 18 points against Bryant.

WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Alston, Jr. led Temple to wins over Wisconsin and Saint Joseph’s, leading the team in scoring with 22 and 20 points, respectively. Alston, Jr.’s streak of 52 consecutive made free throws set a Temple record before coming to an end on Saturday.

Etou’s game-high 22 points helped Tulsa to a victory over Kansas State on Saturday night. The senior also pulled down seven rebounds to help the Golden Hurricane snap the Wildcats’ 23-game winning streak in home venues against non-conference opponents.

Gray helped push Houston’s winning streak to seven with two wins last week, averaging 22.0 ppg in the process. After scoring 20 points in a win over Fairfield, Gray posted 24 in the Cougars’ 19-point road victory at Saint Louis.

Martin averaged 19.5 ppg in Memphis’ two wins, knocking down a career-high six three-pointers in the Tigers’ rout of Bryant. Martin’s 24 points in the rout was one shy of his career-best.
 
Tacko Fall · Jr. · C · UCF · Dakar, Senegal
One day before his birthday, Fall posted his best game of the season, turning in 18 points and nine rebounds in UCF’s win over Southern. In going 8-of-10 from the field, Fall boosted his field-goal percentage to .756 on the year.
