Memphis wide receiver Anthony Miller and Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver were announced as NCAA Consensus All-America selections Thursday
To be selected as a Consensus All-America, a player must be named first team on at least two of the five selected All-America teams. Second teams were used to break ties. Fourteen players were unanimous choices by the five organizations used in the consensus chart — American Football Coaches Association, Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America, The Sporting News and Walter Camp Foundation.
Miller was named a first team All-America honoree by the AFCA, the Associated Press, ESPN and The Athletic's All-American. He earned second team honors from the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) , Sports Illustrated and the Sporting News.
Miller is looking to leave Memphis as the program's all-time leading receiver. He needs three more catches and 27 yards to tie his own single season records in the Memphis record books. He will leave Memphis as the single game, single season and career record holder in catches, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.
Miller has 92 catches for 1,407 yards and 17 touchdowns so far this season.
Oliver was named a first-team All-America by Walter Camp, the AFCA and the FWAA and was named to the second team of the Associated Press and Sporting News teams.
Oliver, who was the 2017 winner of the Outland Trophy, as the nation's top interior lineman and was The American’s Defensive Player of the Year, leads the nation with a career average of 1.54 tackles for loss per game, totaling 37.5 tackles for loss in only 24 games played.
Playing the nose spot in a three-man front, Oliver has totaled 69 tackles in 11 games this season, despite missing three quarters of one game and being limited in the next four with a knee injury.
His average of 6.3 tackles per game this season ranks fourth nationally among all defensive linemen. Oliver’s 69 total tackles rank second nationally among defensive tackles.
