USF, SMU and Tulane earn Monday night wins


The American went 3-1 on Monday night, as USF, Tulane and SMU defended their home courts to pick up midweek wins. The Bulls and Mustangs cruised to double-digit victories, while Tulane completed a come-from-behind 76-69 win. Both SMU and Tulane remain undefeated at home this season. 

Charlotte 69, ECU 50
GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Andrien White scored 30 points on 10-for-20 shooting, Milos Supica got his first career double-double and Charlotte handed interim coach Houston Fancher his first win at the helm of the 49ers, 69-50 over ECU on Monday night.

Trailing by five at the break, Charlotte (4-6) opened the second half with a 29-6 run that included three of White's four 3-pointers to go up 55-37 with eight minutes to play. White also had four layups during the breakaway run and Charlotte led by double figures the rest of the way.

Northern Arizona 56, USF 70
TAMPA, Fla.(AP) -- Payton Banks made five 3-pointers and scored 23 points and Stephan Jiggetts added 17 points and eight assists as South Florida beat Northern Arizona 70-56 on Monday night.

Banks, who made half his team's 3s, went on his own 11-4 run in the last three minutes of the first half with three 3-pointers and a layup to send South Florida to the break with a 33-23 lead.

The Lumberjacks closed the deficit to three after intermission with a 3-pointer from JoJo Anderson and layups from Brooks Debisschop and Karl Harris as the Bulls failed to score until almost four minutes into the second half when Nikola Scekic made a pair of free throws.

Nicholls 69, Tulane 76
NEW ORLEANS (AP)-- Jordan Cornish scored 18 points, Cameron Reynolds scored 16 and Tulane staged a rally despite 22 turnovers to beat Nicholls 76-69 on Monday night.

Tevon Saddler scored eight of the Colonels' last 10 points of the first half to send Nicholls to halftime with a 45-28 lead. Saddler hit a 3 with 17:39 left for 50-30 lead before Nicholls went cold and shot 6 of 29 from the field the rest of the way.

Cornish overcame nine turnovers and scored 13 points in the last 12 minutes. His layup with 5:18 to go put Tulane (8-3) up 60-59 and the
Green Wave never trailed again. Melvin Frazier and Ray Ona Embo each scored 12 for Tulane now 6-0 at home.

Saddler led the Colonels with 24 points and nine rebounds and Jahvaughn Powell had a career-high eight steals. Nicholls (5-6) finished with a total of 15 steals. Kimani Jackson added 16 points for Nicholls.

DALLAS (AP) -- Jimmy Whitt, Jahmal McMurray and Ethan Chargois scored 16 points apiece and SMU beat Boise State 86-63 on Monday night, ending the Broncos' six-game win streak.

Ben Emelogu II added 12 points and Shake Milton scored 11 with seven rebounds and seven assists for SMU. The Mustangs (9-3) are 8-0 at home and have won 30 straight at Moody Coliseum, the second-longest active streak nationally.

Emelogu's 3 put SMU up for good, 11-10, and the Mustangs led 33-22 at halftime after holding the Broncos to 29.6-percent shooting from the field.

Jarrey Foster scored seven straight and Milton and McMurray each hit 3s for 50-27 lead with 14 minutes to go and the Broncos got no closer than 17 the rest of the way. SMU finished shooting 58.9 percent from the field to Boise State's 37.7 percent.

Chandler Hutchison scored 18 points and Justinian Jessup added 11 for the Broncos (10-2), who were off to their best start since going 11-1 in 1987-88.
