UCF, Houston and Wichita State Represented on Collegiate Baseball’s 2018 Preseason All-America List


PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American placed four student-athletes on the 2018 Collegiate Baseball Preseason All-American list, as announced by the organization on Monday.
 
Houston pitcher Trey Cumbie, along with Wichita State outfielder Greyson Jenista were named to the second team , while UCF relief pitcher Bryce Tucker and  Wichita State third baseman Alec Bohm were tabbed to the third team.
 
Cumbie is fresh off a sophomore campaign that was highlighted by his being named the American Pitcher of the Year and a first team All-America. The Lufkin, Texas, native, led the American Athletic Conference with a 2.04 ERA and a 10-2 record in 15 starts. The southpaw fanned 82 in 101.1 innings and had four complete games to his name last season
 
Jenista, a junior from Eudora, Kan., hit .320 last season with 73 hits, 45 runs, 14 doubles, one triple, nine home runs, 41 RBIs and six stolen bases to earn second team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors. Bohm, a junior from Omaha, Neb., hit .305 last season with 71 hits, 44 runs, 13 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, 40 RBI and five stolen bases to earn first team All-MVC honors.
 
Tucker was a force out of the bullpen for UCF in 2017. The Apopka, Fla., native registered a 1.66 ERA in 27 appearances with nine saves. Over 38 innings, Tucker had 55 strikeouts, walked just 12 batters and held opponents off the scoreboard in 21 games. For his efforts, Tucker was named first team all-conference.
 
The 2018 season opens on Feb. 16 with all nine American teams in action, while conference play begins on March 23. The American Athletic Conference preseason coaches’ poll and awards will be announced on December 21.
