Leonie Harm Captures Texas State Invitational Title

Houston sophomore Leonie Harm opened the spring season in impressive fashion Tuesday, capturing the Cougars’ first individual tournament title of the season at the Texas State Invitational at The Bandit Golf Club.

Competing on the 6,032-yard, par-71 course, Harm completed the final three holes of her Second Round on Tuesday morning and posted a 75 in Final Round to finish at 218 and collect the first collegiate title of her career.

Battling overcast skies and cool temperatures, the Gerlingen, Germany, native started her day on a bright note, sinking a birdie on the 163-yard, par-3 11th hole, the 17th hole of her Second Round.

She carried that momentum in the Final Round, draining a birdie on her first hole of the round on the par-3 13th hole but ran into trouble with three straight bogeys on Nos. 14-16. Harm, who was the Cougars’ first competitor at the NCAA Championships as an individual a year ago, gained a stroke with a birdie on the par-5, 18th hole but endured consecutive bogeys on Nos. 1-2.

Harm regained her composure and made par on the next eight holes, building a two-stroke lead before making a bogey on No. 11, her next-to-last hole of the tournament. She finished two strokes ahead of Georgia Southern’s Ariana Macioce and Lois Kaye Go of Boston College.

With the title, Harm became the fourth different Cougar to earn tournament medalist honors during her career. She joined Raegan Bremer and current teammates Emily Gilbreth and Megan Thothong.

The Cougars sent four student-athletes to the Texas State Individuals to compete as individuals and were not eligible for the team championship.
