Opening Day For American Athletic Conference Baseball

All eight teams from the American Athletic Conference begin their 2017 seasons this weekend with a goal of reaching the NCAA College World Series in Omaha.

UCF begins a new era with Greg Lovelady at the helm for the Knights. UCF plays host to Siena for a three-game series. The Knights are 48-4 all-time against the Saints and swept a three-game series last year.
 
Cincinnati starts its season with a three-game set in Natchitoches, La., as the Bearcats take on the Northwestern State Demons. Cincinnati is 0-1 in school history against Northwestern State (L, 9-10, 1997).

UConn heads to Port St. Lucie for a four-game series against the River Hawks of UMass-Lowell. The Huskies hold a 2-0 record against UMass-Lowell including a
4-2 win last season.

East Carolina which advanced to the NCAA Super Regional round last season begins its 2017 slate in Oxford, Miss., against Ole Miss. The Pirates will be meeting the Rebels for the first time in the three-game set.

Houston plays Wake Forest twice and has one game against Nicholls State in the opening weekend. The Cougars will be meeting Wake Forest for the first time and hold a 31-13 record over Nicholls State all-time.

Memphis plays host to in-state rival Tennessee to begin the 2017 season. Memphis is 18-14 all-time against the Volunteers after the Tigers took one of three matchups last year in Chattanooga.

USF plays 19 of its first 20 games at home and starts with three games against Iowa. The Bulls hold a 2-0 record against the Hawkeyes in the all-time series.

Tulane plays host to two service academies as the Green Wave takes on Army twice and Air Force once over the opening weekend. Tulane is 1-0 all time against Army and 1-1 all-time against Air Force.
